#44 A trip to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair
Can you build an industry leading platform without the industry leaders?
Yo,
I flew to New York for the night to visit the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF).
ICFF started in 1989. It’s shrunk in size a touch and changed ownership but is still plodding along each May at the Javits Center, aiming to be “North America’s leading platform for contemporary furnishing design.”
I root for ICFF every year. I want it to succeed. There’s an amazing furniture scene happening in North America. Holding a big NYC-based fair that celebrates that community, creates all types of new conversations and opportunities, and gives visibility to a bunch of new voices in design is a really great idea.
But, I’m not sure ICFF is trying to be that. It was a nice show anyway, improved. I chose to write about some of my favorite things I saw.
